ANKO Ultra-slim LED Lamp

Energy Efficient Ultra-slim Eye-caring Lamp

4.2/5

 FIRST IMPRESSIONS

When I saw the size of the box this lamp came in, I was under the impression that it would be quite small. Once folded out, it’s actually a good size! The base is heavy enough that you needn’t worry about knocking it over and the joints all move smoothly, allowing for easy adjustment. The white material that the lamp is made of is smooth to touch and doesn’t seem to get smudged from fingerprints.

 GENERAL FEEDBACK

There are two folding joints in this lamp, one at the base and the other at the neck (between the upright and the lamp itself). This allows the lamp to be folded away into a very compact shape, if you’re planning on moving it about. It also means that you’re able to adjust where the light is directed.

The light comes from a panel of LEDs that are adjustable to suit your needs. There are three colour “temperatures” that you can pick from, and then you can also choose how bright or dim the light emitted is. Once you’ve settled on a preference, it will remember it the next time you turn the lamp on.

The touch controls on the base of this lamp are nice and easy to use. There’s a decent size area around each button that activates the switch so you can be blurry eyed, or distracted, and it will still work.

The power cord comes with a USB cable and an AC adaptor, which makes it great for a desk with a PC on. One less plug in the wall is a good thing! This lamp has actually ended up being used for taking photos. Being able to aim the light and pick the colour and brightness, is great when you’re messing with photography.

This would be a great lamp for someone with inflammation or limited movement in their hands as there’s not pushing, or rotating switches to operate. I’ll probably get another as a bedside lamp as I love how easy it is to use.

INAVERE LED Flame Effect Light Bulb

Fire Flickering 3 mode Emulation, E26/E27 Base

4.3/5

 FIRST IMPRESSIONS

This lightbulb is well made! The glass that the bulb is made from is a milky white and looks much like any other LED bulb. There’s no movement at all between the glass and the base and it screws into any standard sized screw socket without any issue.

 GENERAL FEEDBACK

This bulb doesn’t look like anything special when you take it out of the box but wait until you use it! I’m pretty sure I clapped my hands with delight when it lit up.

I waited until it was dark before I tried it out and I was not disappointed. I tried it out in a hurricane style lamp and it looked amazing. It would look even better with an opaque cover over it, so that the individual LEDs couldn’t be seen. I bet it would look amazing in one of those Himalayan Salt Lamps.

There’s three different modes that you can have it on, Flicker, Breathing and steady and they all look fantastic. My favourite is the flicker mode, I could almost hear the crackle of the flame in my mind. It made the room feel cozy!

If you’re wanting the look of candle light and fire without the smoke, smell and other inconveniences (and risk) of the real thing, these bulbs are the way to go. They’d be great for a romantic night in, or a themed event.

IMAK Compression Arthritis Gloves

with Arthritis Foundation Ease of Use Seal, Small

4/5

 FIRST IMPRESSIONS

I was concerned with how small these looked when I took them out of the package (I ordered according to the sizing on the box) but they fit perfectly! The fabric of these compression gloves is lovely and soft. The stitching all seems strong and all the seams lay flat so they won’t dig into your skin and cause irritation. There is a care label on the inside of the wrist that will probably need to get cut off if it starts to bunch.

 GENERAL FEEDBACK

The gloves were a bit hard to get on but that is probably because they’re brand new. My hand is just a smidgen over 3 inches wide at the knuckles so I ordered small and it was exactly the right size. The moment the glove was on, I felt almost instant relief from the pain in my knuckles and fingers.

The gloves are designed with a left and right hand, rather than a interchangeable shape, which means that they fit properly around the thumb. I really like how the length of the fingers on the gloves comes up so high, providing extra warmth and comfort for the middle knuckle and a bit of the top knuckle too. Keeping the finger tips exposed means that I can type and pick things up without worry.

The wrist opening is stitched with a zig-zag seam which should help it keep its shape and not stretch too much. The glove comes about 2 inches down onto the wrist so it provides support to that joint as well.

Because the fabric is mostly cotton, it breathes well and doesn’t leave you with clammy hands. When needed, hand wash in cold water and air dry so that the elasticity doesn’t go out of them, and they won’t shrink.

With cold weather, I struggle to use my mouse and keyboard at times due to joint pain in my knuckles and wrist. Using these gloves enables me to use my computer comfortably again and I don’t need to keep taking anti-inflammatories.

KSCS Ultrasonic Pest Repeller

6 Pack Electronic Plug in Pest Control

3.5/5

 FIRST IMPRESSIONS

“They look like Tiny Spaceships!”

I was very surprised at how small these ultrasonic pest repellers were. In the box are three white and three black units, giving you the ability to choose how visible they are when plugged in. When connected, there’s a blue light that indicates that power is on and they’re working. They feel well made and like they could stand up to a bump or two, a good thing in a home with pets and/or kids.

 GENERAL FEEDBACK

The instructions provided are on the side of the box, rather than as an insert, so don’t throw the box out until you’ve got them all set up. The pest repellers are supposed to be set low to the floor, but the instructions give a maximum height of 120cm (~47 inches) which is high enough to be on counter tops. They’re also made to be pointing up, rather than sideways, to allow the sound waves to travel as intended. They’re basically designed so that all you need to do is plug them in and let them do their thing.

The design is quite neat, being compact and not overly obtrusive when plugged in. The blue led that lights up when it’s powered on is small and not too bright, so it won’t be distracting. The light slowly pulses on and off, with the white one casting a a bit of light through the casing.

The only design issue I found is that they take up 2 plugs worth of space when connected. In my bathroom, we have a standard 2 point wall socket ( 1up, 1 down) and when I have one of the pest repellers plugged in, I can’t use the other socket at all. I may have to test how well they work when plugged in sideways, so that I can get the nightlight and air freshener plugged back in.

As I’ve only just installed them, I’ll have to come back in a couple of weeks to be able to comment on how efficient they are. I’m hoping they work as well as the reviews here suggest as Florida is a buggy place!

 FOLLOW UP

We’ve had these in place for over two weeks now and there has been no noticeable effect at all. I watched ants walk over one, and some roaches walk past another without any sign of being affected. They look neat and act like a bit of a night light but, as an insect repellant, they just don’t work. I tried altering where they were plugged in and swapping units ( in case one was faulty) but there was no difference. I’ll keep them in for another couple of weeks, just in case, but at this point I would not recommend these.

Hy-Ko MM-5N Self-Stick Numbers

3″, Black/Gold

3.3/5

 FIRST IMPRESSIONS

When I took these stickers out of the packet, they all looked fine. The background black was solid in colour and texture, and the gold numbers were bright and easy to see.

 GENERAL FEEDBACK

These stickers were easy to peel and apply on our mailbox. I did make sure that I had the first one on square and after that, I aligned them to each other and they went on straight. I was able to lift and reapply one that went on a bit lopsided and it still stuck well.

My main complaint is that the size of the stickers is not consistent. The zero stickers were all a fraction shorter than the rest which isn’t so bad on our mailbox as it’s a dark colour, but it really would stand out against a pale colour.

Given that they’ve only just been applied, I can’t speak to how well they hold up to weather and time. If you’re not worried about things being perfectly aligned, then these will suffice.
